Re the tendency to build something at the highest point, it tends to usually be of religious significance. The Celts in central Europe often sacrificed victims by throwing them off the highest cliffs and the christians were quick to put crosses or religious statues up to snub them. (Ever noticed how the areas of highest pagan importance received the largest and most numerous churches, England included..?)
 
Many thanks Aaron and Andy. I have been known to get what is referred to as "Churched Out" on some of these trips. Sometimes you get to a point when you just cant face walking through another church door. Past tours in Italy are a case in question.
 
Today we visit the small medieval hillside town of Pérouges. It is believed that parts of the 1973 film "The Three Musketeers" with Oliver Reed, Raquel Welch, Richard Chamberlain and Michael York were filmed here.

It's a lovely picturesque little place of pebbled streets and surprises round every corner.
