I don't think I could have asked for a better view of another hotel.

Friday night I was in South Bend, IN. I met a nice gentleman from Germany staying at the same hotel I was. We got to chatting. I served in then West Germany at Pruem Air Station from 1980-83. He thanked me for helping to keep Germany free back then.
I have been thanked for my service many, many times. I have been never thanked for helping to keep Germany free before. That made my evening.
We chatted about a great many things that evening. It was most enjoyable for both of us.
I was in South Bend for an APBA baseball tourney on Saturday. I had fun. I lost my first 4 games, then I won my last 4 games. Since everyone had to pick a team that lost 100 or more games that season, it was more than a bit crazy. I "managed" the 1962 Chicago Cubs. My games were crazy and then some!

Attended the Detroit Pride Parade on Sunday, June 8th, and my family and I did our "Mom Hugs" and "Dad Hugs" stand at the end of the parade route. It greatly saddens me that this simple show of support brings such joy to so many. What terrible things must be happening in those peoples lives that a simple hug has such meaning. I had more than one poor soul crying on my shoulder as they took their hug from a "Dad". There were seven of us there altogether, and we all stayed very busy as the parade went by! The happiness was so nice to see, even if we know it won't last for long out in the rest of the world.

although I've been prescribed glasses for distance use, to help until full recovery is realised.
Brings to mind something my grandmother said. Seeing an old friend driving her car, she said, "Emma! Why aren't you wearing your glasses?"

Emma replied, "I don't need glasses to see things that are far away, just things that are close."

My grandmother replied, "Emma, you are not going to hit things that are far away."

My temperature is down to 99.1F this morning, down from 100F yesterday. And I generally feel quite a bit better. Among other things, I am drinking lots of liquids, per the usual advice, but now I can at least go pee and have it all come out with no problem. Sleeping went a whole lot better last night; I still had to get up a number of times but at least I could get to sleep in between bouts, since the coughing was not nearly as bad.

This resembles the strange flu I had in August 2010. I did not feel nearly as bad as the usual flu, and my temp was usually only 0.5 degrees above normal, but the damn stuff lasted a whole week; I ran an elevated temp for 7 days straight.

My son stopped late at a red light- waaay over the crosswalk, right in front of a cop car which was about to proceed through the intersection. As the cruiser passed in front of us, the cop just gave us one of these - [-X
Clearly, he did not want to have to get out of his car in the rain just to give us a ticket.
