I just remembered a game we use to play when I was in the army. Does anyone remember Micro Armour? You would lay out an entire floor space with terrain and miniature tanks and run a full scale tank battle that would take hours to play. You would use pieces of cotton to show a hit.

After basic training I was sent to the Defense Language Intitute in Monterey, CA. I walked into the barracks and found half a dozen guys crowded around a table in the day room playing Third Reich.
I thought I had died and gone to heaven. We had running games of Diplomacy with moves due at lunch and dinner. Never had an open position.
Those were my halcyon days.

Yes. We played it in high school.

We played a 'very micro' version of that in school, with a simple sheet of paper marked with your tanks (square boxes with a line sticking out for a barrel) positioned at your end, and theirs at theirs. You just took turns with a pen placed at the barrel of one of your tanks and drew a quick line across the sheet, aiming at one of theirs. If you hit it, the tank got an X and was out of the game, last man standing wins. Simple but fun
