I've attached the landing gear, gear doors and painted them. as well as some details such as the underside scoop and ventral antennas. after I finish this bowl of ice cream, I'll apply the decals.

btw, have any of you guys used hat Testors Decal set? if so, can you gimme some pointers?
 
BT, if you have a look in the Brush painting guide I posted, in the 'Sticky'threads i think, it included the method Karl used for the mottle, and also how to diffuse the appearance. It's designed for those who don't have an airbrush.
Rob, the Testor's decal thing is the same as ordinary inkjet, or laser, decal paper. Basically, get your artwork together, and orientate it on a page so that you get the best use out od the decal paper. Then print it off your PC, and spray it with a clear coat. Leave this at least an hour, preferably a lot longer, then use as normal decals,
Bear in mind that anything with white in it will come out clear, as, unless you have an ALPS printer, you can't print white. There are white sheets available, but of course this might involve very close trimming of the finished design. Also, don't expect the density of some colours to be as good as commercial decals, as inkjet ink isn't designed to print onto clear sheet. Results will be marginally better through a laser printer, using laser decal sheet, but still not as dense.
 
My first attempt at overall NMF...





I got a bit too close with the spray can, resulting in a nasty blemish on the port side around the intake and on the fuselage side behind the 'pit. Fortunately, national insignia and the wing root will hide the worst of it from most angles 8)
 
Looks OK there BT. I 've never been able to use a spray can on models, so well done mate ! Might have helped if you'd masked the cockpit though !
Don't know if you've seen it, but there's a 'guide' on a way to achieve good NMF, I think called .Bare Metal Made Easy', which I posted in the modelling Painting Questions section some time ago. I think it's on page 6.
 
I agree witrh Terry. Nicely done BT.

I was working on pilot's seats for the B-24. Unfortunately these from the kit aren't nice. It is difficult to make them because of wrong geommetry and dimensions. I decided to scratch build these using the corrected pieces of the wrong seats. The effect below. I think these new seats look better.

Yep..these are still of cardboard. I made these B-5 parts thicker with green cardboard. Then I cut off the seat interior with paying attention to the correct geommetry. I shaped these B-5 parts and these seat interiors.I 've sticked all parts together and added edges of the green cardboard. At tops I added these oblong bulges made of thin sticks of a stretched sprues. Then I used Superglue for overall applying..

I;m putting the finishing details on the Independence. the Eagle head looks sloppy, so forgive me for that. also, the decals were misprinted, so I had to fix the "beak" by applying gloss white to the preferred areas.
 
Thanks for the advice Terry, I'll have to get round to reading all the guides when I'm next off work. I thought about masking the pit, but I was lazy and didn't. I will probably get around to painting it in the next few days. That will be a task in itself, as the pit is moulded into the single-piece fuselage on HobbyBoss kits. It looks great, but there's no interior detail, and you have to get a brush right inside. I will probably mask off the surrounding areas before trying it!

Wojtek, the Liberator looks great! Can you get these card kits in the UK? I quite fancy trying one...
 
Ah! I forgot the little HB kits have a one-piece fuselage - only ever seen or built one, the FW190, and I don't normally 'do' 1/72nd scale.

To be honest I don't know if these cardboard kits are available in the UK. Most of these are quite old issues. But there are other manufactures that offer is available in your country. Try to Haliński Publisher and CO. They have a great selection of cool card kits. But if you are interested in the Bombers of Fly Model or GPM, let me know via PM.

hey guys, I'm thinking about getting the Testors Decal set. I have a Lexmark Z1300 that i got brand new for just $25 will this work on that printer?
 
As I mentioned in your other thread Rob, the decal papers from Testors are more or less the same as from Bare Metal and other suppliers (probably the same stuff anyway!). As long as you use the correct paper for the printer, that is, either ink jet or laser, then they should work.
Make sure you don't touch the sheet once it comes out of the printer until it has had time to dry, as it takes a bit longer than 'normal'printer paper, and can easily smudge. Spray the sheet with a clear, acrylic varnish before use, making sure it's a light coating, which can be repeated if required once the first coat has fully dried.
Leave this for at least two hours, and preferably overnight, for example, to let the varnish harden and seal the image, and then use as normal decals, Don't forget, you can not print white - any areas with white in them will come out clear on the decal, unless white paper is used, and the colour density will be nowhere near as dense as on commercial decals.
 

ah, so I guess the white Kangaroo of Qantas airways is out of the question?
