Soldiering on with my C47. Construction of the main parts is just about complete. I'm now in the process of cleaning up the joins. The joins along the upper and lower spine were particularly nasty to get rid of. Initially I tried using regular putty and Mr. Surfacer, but these joins kept showing up. Kind of like a ghost-seam. They look OK when sanded/polished at first, but once a layer of paint is sprayed on they look like SH*T. So, I ended up builing up a few layers of Alclad Grey Primer/MicroFiller which did the trick. Extremely though layer which I managed to sand/polish into the smooth surface I was looking for. Bit of extra work went into it so to say, but having a nasty visible join running across that big spine isn't what I'm looking for, so there you go. Also had to restore/clean up a few panel lines which ended up all but invisible due to multiple rounds of sanding/polishing. I'm still considering doing a NMF kite, so better to be save then sorry when it comes down to those joins.

Good stuff Jelmer. I had a slight joint problem on mine, but not as bad as that by the look of it !
That prolly has to do with my 'gift' of always slightly mis-aligning parts (even on Tamigawa kits
) usually nothing to worry about, but when a certain fit (in this case considerably warped fuselage halves) is less then great to begin with it doesn't make it easier when I mess it up a little extra. Oh well, the fuselage join is all but out of the way now, so it's all good now. Still need to take a good look at the cargo door though.

Yep, I had problems getting both doors to sit correctly in the closed position. I guess the designers figured most people would pos them open.

Yep, nice work Karl and Jelmer!
I've started on the HMS Halifax in 1:35 (straightening the warped false keel at moment), and finishing 2 1:72 Mustangs (Airfix almost OOB, and major conversion of Academy kit using Revell, Italeri, Pavla, True Details and Scratched components)

Cheers but not really Terry, I need to improve my skills alot!
A wise man once said...one can never have too many Spitfire's... I do have quite a few of 'em sitting around actually. Among them a few of those new-tool Airfix kits (Mk.I/MK.IX/PR.MK.XIX etc.) A while ago I had stared this one and the paint job was done really, but it was shelved for some reason or the other. The main reason prolly being that I often use these cheap but fun-to-build Airfix kits to practise free-hand camo airbrushing and weathering techniques and things like that before I go 'live' with a 'real' project ( I must say my practise runs on this Spit paid off when I was working on my recently completed Spitty MK.24)
So, after I managed to lay down a decent paintjob freehand it was shelved until I needed something simple to take with me to a modelling event last sunday. I dusted off this one and raided my spare decals box for some replacements for the (one again) quite horrible Airfix kit decals, particularly the sky markings are terrible. I think most of these decals come from the Italeri MK.IX kit, this one being markings for Pierre Clostermans Spit IX I believe. The main reason I picked these were for their color as the Airfix kit markings make it look like some kind of fairground attraction in terms of colors. This will prolly not end up being the most brilliant thing I ever did, but it should make into decent looking Spitty when done.

Good stuff so far guys.
I finally got some painting done yesterday. I applied polished aluminum to the Stratocruiser and all the necessary parts of it (engine cowlings, props, tailplanes, gear doors) I didn't realize it till later that one of the white wingtips wasn't the same length as the other one. so I had to do a quick fix using post it notes, some tape, and a paper towel. I sprayed that area with white and the wingtips are even now. now comes the most challenging part....the red vertical stabilizer and wingtips. cos there's just a sliver of white and a lot of red on the wingtips which makes a bit of a challenge for me. I think this is the most complicated paint scheme I've ever done.
props, gear doors, and engine cowlings painted on Monday. I didn't wanna post any new pics till I did the red on the plane, itself. the engine cowlings have almost no detail whatsoever. Minicraft really half arsed this one. but at least I could make it halfway decent by using a gunmetal color and painting in the area where the engine is supposed to be. looks alright with the prop in, now.
aaaand got the red areas painted, today. starting to look like it's a Northwest Airlines bird! I just got some touch-ups to do before I slap on a coat of Future.
not permanent yet, just thought I'd show ya what they look like with the props in. 4 Pratt Whitney R-4360 Wasp Majors. 28 cylinders! no wonder they called it "The Corncob"!
