I think the only 2 that website I showed you could fix are the Tu-154, and the DC-8. if I were you, I'd do the TU-154 in the current aeroflot livery, and the DC-8 in either Delta, United, or Northwest colors. the Northwest would depend on what variant this DC-8 is. and it looks as if that registry PH-DTA belongs to a DC-10

Hi guys
A long time I was gone. In between the construction big wings do such a thing.
HMS Lance scale 1/700 from scratch.

No nie Romek.. całkiem zgrabnie.

Peytty nice work so far Romek. :thumbright:

Fantastic work mate - in awe!

Cheers for that info Rob, taken onboard! Btw, if you say that's a DC-10 rather than 8, I believe you - I don't know my airliners well, so searched the kits on the net. (Wondering about the kit designation Tu-20 for the 'Bear' too - I only knew them as Tu-95s...)

Nice scratch-building on the ship! Tricky stuff in such a tiny scale.
Evan, the Tu-95 was the (civilian) pre-production and development aircraft series - the production variant had the military designation Tu-20, NATO code name 'Bear'.

Evan,

(I think) I also have that Yak 40 (Jak 40) kit! Bought it as a starting point for a wind-tunnel test model that we ended up not needing (and have been looking to get rid of it ever since!) They let us get our diplomas anyway!

well, your DC-8 is a shortbody early turbofan it looks like. so as long as your DC-8 doesn't go over the 62 designation (excluding the 61) I think you're good. although here's a site that'll help you best determine exactly what yours is HJG - Downloads

though I think your DC-8 may be a 30 or 50 designation

Cheers guys!

Terry, I didn't know that either!

Jim - I don't have that kit unfortunately, that and the Let 410 boxes are empty. Have enough to do myself, but if you want to trade it for something, stick it on the 'I'll trade U 4 that' thread, or you could try selling her on E-bay and co - these kits are rarities now and you could make some good money off her. (the cheapest Tu 154 I saw was $30, excl.postage, another was $50!)

Rob, cheers for that info, will look into that.
Decided I'll probably do the Tu 154 myself, unless someone really wants her. I'd do her in conjunction with a Lisunov Li-2 conversion, in Hungarian MALÉV markings, to commemorate the glory days of the national airline some corrupt managers bankrupted without notice recently...

Any idea why NATO called the Tupolev Tu-95 Bear for Tu-20 for such a long time and wasn't the civilian version Tu-142?

Evan, when you work on the DC-8. be sure to post progress pics :D

did a little bit over the weekend. all this masking is just for a little bit of putty. heh

wheels are done. actually had to do the wheels twice, cos I wanted those tiny holes in the wheel wells to be black, as they are. I also need to get some pics of the landing gear struts, cos something tells me that this ain't enough painting for the gear struts.

Sure will Rob, won't be for a while yet though.

Jan, according to a book of mine (Flugzeug Typen Der Welt - 'Aircraft of the world'), the 142 designation was for the anti-submarine version of the 'Tu 95'. As my model is supposed to be a Tu-20 in anti-submarine configuration, I'm buggered if I know what the correct designation is!

I knoooow! Googled Tu-95 and the familiar and classic turboprop shows up, can't even remember hearing it being called anything but Tu-95 Bear... Now I'm confused!
Have to say though, I'm quiet partial to the Tu-16! 8)

Edit: For a long time, the Tu-95 was known to U.S./NATO intelligence as the Tu-20. While this was the original Soviet Air Force designation for the aircraft, by the time it was being supplied to operational units it was already better known under the Tu-95 designation used internally by Tupolev, and the Tu-20 designation quickly fell out of use in the USSR. Since the Tu-20 designation was used on many documents acquired by U.S. intelligence agents, the name continued to be used outside the Soviet Union.

....and the civilian version is Tu-114!

If that link's correct Jan, strange that we've only ever heard it referred to as Tu 95 and not Tu 20!

...And sorry Rob! Yeah, great job on the undercarriage, looking forward to the new paintwork!
