Good stuff Jelmer, and nice to know that the old Airfix quality seems to be returning. Let's hope they (Hornby) continue the trend with the 1/48th scale range, and then do the same thing with Humbrol paints !

I can't be bothered too much with Humbrol paints Terry, although I do recall a few posts from you mentioning issues with Humbrol paints which ofcourse should be ironed out on the Hornby/Humbrol side of things. Apart from an occasional humbrol acrylic I use mostly Tamiya, Gunze, Revell, Vallejo and LifeColor acrylics, but I definately hope Airfix and Hornby will be able to keep up this progress at the same affordable price. In present (economical) times a well tooled up product at an affordable price seems like a good combination to me. For me the 'sweet spot' as far as airfix kits go would be the Spitfire Mk.22/Mk.24 and Seafire Mk.47 1/48 kits. These are truly wonderful kits. I wouldn't mind it Airfix would make that their medium term 'goal' in terms of quality, and it really shows what airfix could do, even though in retrospect they were as good as gone at the time of the release of these kits.

Slow progress but latest: HMS Halifax deck plates on and hull sanded to form. (Nail heads sanded flush since taking pics)

Next step: planking...

Terry...

Actually trials were carried out with Fairey Swordfish aircraft, but failed when soldier-pilots were simply unable to fit the cockpits of their half scale charges...:)

Thanks my friend!

Have to get a new soldering iron to help warp the hull planking. Till then redoing the Swordfish engine and cowl which I stuffed up, aswell as a P-51A/B run (4 kits, mostly OOB)

flat white applied, missed some spots, though. plus, I had to sand the top of the fuse a bit more cos there was a bump from the putty that needed to be flush. also, I had to reapply putty to the cockpit cos I could still see seams.
