I can't be bothered too much with Humbrol paints Terry, although I do recall a few posts from you mentioning issues with Humbrol paints which ofcourse should be ironed out on the Hornby/Humbrol side of things. Apart from an occasional humbrol acrylic I use mostly Tamiya, Gunze, Revell, Vallejo and LifeColor acrylics, but I definately hope Airfix and Hornby will be able to keep up this progress at the same affordable price. In present (economical) times a well tooled up product at an affordable price seems like a good combination to me. For me the 'sweet spot' as far as airfix kits go would be the Spitfire Mk.22/Mk.24 and Seafire Mk.47 1/48 kits. These are truly wonderful kits. I wouldn't mind it Airfix would make that their medium term 'goal' in terms of quality, and it really shows what airfix could do, even though in retrospect they were as good as gone at the time of the release of these kits.
