Great game Overall I thought Belgium were the better team but howard played a blinder and the USA had fantastic chances to win. Hard luck USA but no shame in losing a game like that...great stuff

Great game, very enjoyable. Both teams went for it. I'm happy the Belgians won ( sorry guys). They were the better team and they are our close neighbours of course. Still, the US played surprisingly well and put up a good fight.

It's been a great worldcup sofar. Many games are exiting, surprising and lots of goals. Although the favorites went on to the quarter finals, I believe every single one of them struggled to win the 8th finals.

Team USA just doesn't have the talent to win. The loss to Portugal (I know it was a tie, but we f***ing blew it) just showed how far we are in being able to seal the deal. Germany and Belgium just proved my point.

It wont be until 2022 before we can even think about being good enough to get out of the first knockout round. And even then, I have my doubts.

I disagree. The US had every right to be in the knockout phase. The game yesterday proved that. Belgians had a hard time winning this one (and so had the Germans earlier). I agree the US is not brilliant and they're not a candidate for winning the tournament (few countries are), but they're doing well.

I think the Americans demonstrated that in football a team with organisation, commitment and being prepared to work hard (very hard in their case ) can overcome a team whose players are technically better. It's one of the odd things about football that makes tournaments (like England's FA Cup) in which teams of supposedly vastly inferior talent and certainly inferior resources can over turn their so called betters, so entertaining.
Not one of those Americans left anything out there on the field. They all gave 100% and had they won the Belgians wouldn't have had much to complain about. Some of world football's over indulged super stars could learn something from the Americans' work ethic and commitment. I don't believe that some of those Spaniards, Englishmen, Portuguese and Italians, for example, played for their shirts in the same way those Americans did. It's why they are all back home checking how many millions are in their bank accounts, all paid by their clubs.
The US team may ultimately have lost, and to a better team, but they will have made a lot of friends by the way they lost and have nothing to be ashamed of.

France v Germany just about to start and I'm home to watch it. Licking my lips at this one between two great European rivals. Plenty of history between these neighbours and not just on the football field :)

As an Englishman I really am a neutral on this one, I just hope it's a good game.

Cheers

Steve
