A giant leaves us. Sir Ed Hillary dies.

At 0900 Sir Edmund Hillary climbed his final mountain at Auckland hospital.

Known to all Kiwi's as "Sir Ed" he was as a gentle giant who cared far more for others than himself.

My aunt met him on a hiking trail in Nepal in the 80s as I recall.

In 1943 Hillary joined the RNZAF as a navigator and served on a PBY Catalina.
