Well, it was going so well til just now......

The fit of the wings to the fuselage is a 6 out of 10 so some spring clamps were called for. Unfortunately, one of the clamps slipped and the model fell onto its nose, knocking off the nose cone I spent a few hours fitting and also knocking loose the breaker panel and oxygen hose. After dealing with the pesky wing joint (glue was, of course, already applied) and resetting the camps, I set the whole thing aside and worked on something else, namely applying some black paint to a bunch of things that needed it.

Fortunately, nothing seems to have broken so hopefully will be back in the saddle tomorrow evening.

I hope you can fix it all without too much hassle Andy. I know the feeling when that happens - a year or so before joining the forum, I'd just got back into modelling, and was adding the last piece to a 1/48th RAF Phantom, when I dropped it onto a hard floor!
It took me about six weeks to find the enthusiasm to get it fixed, but even now, there;'s still a ghost joint along the top of the fuselage!
 
Thanks guys - no real issues but it is a bit of a setback. Found out that one of the delicate plastic support rods for the pedal had broken (it was help up by the wires) so I had to squeeze in a dab of CA to set that. Otherwise, it's just back a few steps to reinstall the dome. Here's a pic of the bits that need to be put back in:

The fact that the canopy sides are too narrow creates a fair amount of tension on the glue joint with the dome. I'm leery of using CA (last thing I want to do is risk fogging the clear parts) and PVA is not strong enough. Tamiya Extra Thin is what I use but on examination of the fracture face, it appears there was very little "welding" happening here and, because the toothpick brace was still in, I'm not sure the joint would have held when I removed the brace. If anyone has suggestions for a strong glue that is guaranteed not to fog the clear parts (Gorilla???), I'm all ears.

Anyway, this being a Hasegawa kit, I expected a much better fit of the wing to the fuselage. Here are some pics of what I need to deal with, starting with the not-too-bad forward top seam. The black painted areas are the result of my habit to find uses for left over paint in my airbrush cup. In this case, I was painting various wheel hubs and the spinner for my Dora and I used the leftovers on some of the seams I had already filled and sanded.

Things are less then stellar toward the back, where there are very pronounced mismatched contours and the step where the wing meets the fuselage should prove to be entertaining - both sides.

I don't really understand why Hasegawa chose to make a separate clear part on the top rear fuselage as this has nothing to do with the recon camera installation and I know of no other clear parts in this location on the Ar234. This just makes thinks worse as there is a definite step that needs to be dealt with as well which is not readily seen in these pics.

On the underside, gaps are visible on both sides. These will see the Squadron putty/Nail Polish Remover technique used to fill them.
