The Avia S-199 was a Czechoslovakian built Junkers Jumo 211 powered version of the Bf 109G and was the first fighter type acquired by the Israeli Air Force the first few arriving May 20, 1948 only three days after Israeli independence was declared. By May 29 three S-199s were attacking an Egyptian column heading towards Tel Aviv infliction only minor damage but slowing the column down giving Israeli forces enough time to halt the Egyptian advance.
Here's the kit, Hobbcraft Avia S-199 "Israeli Knife"
I've made a couple of Hobbycraft 109s before and have found them to be rather basic but OK kits with decent recessed panel lines and this one seemes to be the same basic 109 kit with different fuselage halves along with a few other parts unique to the S-199.
I'm not sure I'll be starting it right away as I'm still working on my entry from the last group build
I've made a start on this one working on the cockpit over the last week. I added an oxygen hose and regulator, throttle handel made from a bit of copper wire and lap belts made of wine bottle foil.(the shoulder harness will be added later) Just about ready to close it up. leaver
