Thanks Dr. Gnomey and John. Testors has their own tiny spray bomb which comes in the kit; 6 sheets of clear and 6 white. That is long gone. I use this...

...it comes in clear, satin and matte. I mist it in 3 light coats. I'm not sure how Future© reacts (DO NOT BRUSH COAT!!!) though I'm sure most clear coats will work though I would test drive them first.

Thanks Glenn. I used this...

...it is a pretty close match to the Orange Yellow ANA 506 chip I have in the Monogram navy book. Stuff is brutally expensive though, almost 9$CAN for a 3oz. can

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Retina Burn! evey thing just went blank I looked into the eyes of the sun!

Sure is yeller. George, when printing the decals, you can experiment with the paper thickness settings in the setup program. If you double up the paper, you can chose something like card stock or equivalent and see how that goes.

Been a while since I use a Testors rattle can. I think they were about $4 last time I used one. I guess $9 for a 3 oz can may not be bad when a 1oz jar is $3.50. Still brutally expensive ether way.

Do NOT use 'Future/Klear' as a clear cote for decals - it will dissolve in the water !
Any acrylic varnish is suitable - I currently use Vallejo clear gloss, obtained from the local art shop. The decal papers can also be bought from art shops, or direct from specialist paper/craft suppliers, as separate sheets or bulk packs, and at a lot less cost than buying such packs as sold by Testors and others.
Given the printer is set-up correctly, the finished print (decal) should be as sharp as you'd expect from 'normal' printing, although perhaps lacking a bit of 'depth' in overall saturation.

umm..... "acrylic varnish" = Future, no? I would think an oil based varnish is what we'd be going for or am I wrong? I've used the Testors decal spray but have no idea what it's made of.

As far as I know the Testor's spray is juts an acrylic varnish. Future is an acrylic based wax, and will dissolve (on home made decals) when placed in water - I learned from experience !
In 'the old days', I used to brush on ordinary enamel varnish when making decals by hand, but how this would work if airbrushed onto ink-jet printed decals, given the thinners content, I'm not sure - there's a high chance it could effect the printed image.
I've used many brands of acrylic aerosol varnish without problems so far, except once, when I sprayed two, heavy coats, too quickly, resulting in the image distorting and dissolving at the edges.
Two, maybe three, light coats, with a pause for each coat to dry, is the way to do it.

Doing the fiddly parts and clear parts. I also had to try the home made decals to make sure...

...I also ran downstairs to better align it.

Well if there isn't a decal sheet offered, there should be....just sayin'. Any idea which squadron that -47 is from Wojtek? Might be able to find a profile. scan it and then print it myself.
