First name: Kirby
Category: Advanced
Scale: 1/48
Manufacturer: Eduard
Model Type: Macchi C.202 Folgore
Addons: Eduard PE and Brassin resin wheels are included in the kit. EDIT: Couldn't help myself, got the Eduard undercarriage bay upgrade set.

No idea if I can get this done by deadline (when is it anyway?) but been wanting to do this one for a while. The kit is Eduard's Limited Edition which is a reboxing of the Hasegawa kit with Eduard PE detail and Brassin resin wheels and air intakes thrown in.

The Macchi C.202 Folgore (Thunderbolt) was designed by Mario Castoldi (hence the C designation), built by Macchi Aeronautica, and operated mainly by the Regia Aeronautica.

The subject will be MM 7711, a II. Serie from 378a Squadriglia, 155 Gruppo, 51 Stormo CT based at Gela in Sicily presumably flying sorties in the siege of Malta during August 1942. Being an early Serie, the aircraft has the fried egg camo scheme but with a replacement cowl from another aircraft.

Thanks Jeff, but I'm not Italian  Doing a 205 Geo?

Thanks everybody. So I opened up the instruction sheet to be met with a plethora of PE - Eduard's not mucking about here!

In fact I think this cockpit is more PE than plastic! I'm going to call it robo-pit...

So the first point of order was to do some surgery on the parts in red and begin installing the PE into robo-pit.

This is only a small part of it, the rest will be installed after painting. Also started on the IP.

Thanks for stopping by guys.

Good start Kirby. I'm hoping to do two 205s but not the one I wanted with the front half in stripes and the rear in Luftwaffe colors. I thought I could get the decal sheet but lost out

Looking forward to this one Kirby! This is a kit that I was thinking of picking up. I even bought the Eduard engine plug upgrade but still... no kit! I love the Folgore and watching all of the little PE bits come together is always educational.

Thanks fellas. John, I was planning to do this one OOB (even though in this instance "OOB" includes a pile of PE and resin!) so have been resisting the Eduard engine plug. I'm sorely tempted though, so what is your review on it and do you think it would be a worthwhile addition to this build in 1/48?

Great start Kirby. I have this one in the stash (Hasegaws boxing) and considered it for this GB but did not think I would have the time to finish it.

Hi Kirby... I haven't really looked at the engine plug. I ordered it a while back when I was shopping for the Eduard 202 kit and put it on a shalf. I'll try and get some photos of it for your reference. It's one of those areas that I feel compelled to address, similar to the wheel well area of the Dora. On the other hand, it is on the bottom of the aircraft and you won't see it unless you pick the model up and look at it from underneath. Back when I did the Hasegawa 202 kit the first time, I used the out-of-production Jaguar resin upgrade, which included a cockpit and the engine plug.

OK, bugger it, I've ordered the Eduard undercarriage bay upgrade set - once I started thinking about it I couldn't go back, So much for the OOB build...again. Note to self: do not look at AM on the internet.

Apologies for the lack of updates. Been up the coast to visit the out-laws and then busy at work. Hope to make a bit of progress this weekend...
