I have so loved (boooo Hisss) this Eduard night mare that I figure I'll do a CH kit bash of sorts. By combining these two (there's not much to combine really) I can do a C-4 for the Battle of Britain. This should go a lot smoother then the Eduard (wouldn't take much).

Good one Don. I have another '110 to do as a EpFr210 machine at sometime, working from info in John Vasco's 'Bombsights over England'.
Note that the old Microscale / Super Scale decal sheet is inaccurate - the EpGr 210 badge should not be enclosed in a shield at this date, just the red silhouette of the British Isles with the yellow sight over it. The shield came a year or so later.
I have yet to find accurate decals for this.
Also, it's very probable that this particular aircraft should be a 'D', with the boat tail (the one I'll be modelling) and the bomb rack beneath the fuselage, with the 'E' in the code being black outlined in white, not red, and WkNr. 3377, in white, on the port fuselage just forward of the tail planes.

EDIT: Note also that this unit was formed on 1st July 1940.

That brings up a couple of questions for me. One, did the S9+EK belong to the aircraft, ie used on only one tail number, or did it stay with the squadron when a plane went down, or did it , like the Americans, belong to the aircrew? I was thinking this should have been a D. SuperScale gets things wrong an awful lot.

Doing it as a D would be a bit easier but not a lot!

Balthasar Aretz and Rolf Schilleng normally flew aircraft coded 'E', and possibly flew other Bf110's with this code, which again would almost certainly be the 'D' model - this unit used the 'D' and the 'C-6', the latter armed with the belly cannon gondola.
The individual code letter, in this case 'E', would be transferred to replacement aircraft if / when an earlier aircraft was lost or replaced with a 'newer' model.
The Super Scale decals were originally produced by Micro Scale, in the late 1970s / early 1980s, and are more 'representative' than accurate.
The colour profile you posted shows the aircraft as it was in August 1940 (outside the time span for this GB) finished in RLM 71/02/65..

Ok did I miss something, August 1940, should be well within this GB as it covers, as I understand it from May 49 through the BoB Sep 1940, or did I miss something? The groupen was formed July 1940 as a test group for the Me 210 which didn't materialize until much later. They were, as I understand it, in turn used to test new uses for the 110, including bombing. The D is quite similar to the C save for the long range tanks and the boat (long tail). The Erc 250 (I think that's right) bomb racks were first tried out by this group. If I recall (not near my library right now), this group was also tasked with new tactics for the Ju 87 and 88. After the BoB they went to Russia as a fast bomber group. Any who I was thinking this was in the GB, if not I have markings for another C BoF.

Don I think you are OK with the timeframe. We've been through this before and I thought we decided that the BoB period would be included (...yet again). The original Battle of France theme would have seen us end at June 22, 1940 but several entrants have construed the GB title to include the BoB which, after some discussion, resulted in us saying that we would include BoF as well as BoB subjects,

Well in the interest of the original concept and in going with doing a Bf 110C, I'll change the aircraft. As I am pretty sure as is Terry that the aircraft in question it a D and it is indeed BoB, I did get some markings for a BoF C!

Well I found the perfect markings for the 110C.

This is Oberstleuanant Hans-Joachim Jabs aircraft May 1940. By this time in the war he had already received six confirmed kills and would go on to survive the war flying Bf-110 as a night and day fighter with 50 kill and live to be 85 when he died in October 2003.

So as would be expected the two kits are very about the same. CH has used a standard wing and center fuselage so they could produce several variances. So far they have don the D, -1 and -3 as well as an E-2 Trop. The C model had a short tail as did most other variants, but the D had an added in life boat and survival gear as it was designed to give the aircraft added range and would be flying over water far more. The add boat was place in the aft tail of the air craft which could be detached via a cable pull at the gunners seat that ran down the outside of the aircraft. Some E's also carried the "boat tail" as well but most did not. Other major changes to the D from the C were in the addition of external fuel tanks of various sizes and shapes, as well as over time and development the addition of bomb racks. I will not be using any of these and will used the short tail of the E on the D.

Well I took my son up to Austin to stay will Dale as he starts a new job up there. I stopped at King's Hobby while there, Picked up a Monogram B-29 Superfortress for $20 they had on hold for me and some more Vallejo Model Colors, RLM 70/71 and 76 x 2 ea. I dropped of some kits for the resale and store credit for the Kitty Hawk RF-101C/G when it hits the store. When I came home my decals for this build were in and I talked to my Grandson and we decided I should start with the main landing gear. so here we go.
