Now THIS is freakin' cool, 20,000 hits in the last month on my website! 4,600+ in the last week alone.

Next time in San Diego, try the "Flight Path Lounge." Right on India street in little Italy, there is a bar with a court yard that is right under the flightpath. You almost feel like ducking when a 737 roars over... VERY COOL...

the crowd was a little funky though.

The numbers on your website are especially impressive because of your Domain Name. "V-G photo" is not a search term someone would type in unless they were looking specifically for you. Dashes are deadly in URLs! imagine if you had a Domain name like, WarbirdPhotos.com or AviationPics.com!

of coarse there are of other factors that influence search engines but "V-G photo" is not search engine friendly..

Congratulations! A testimony to your good work.

I realized the dash might be a problem after I registered the domain name, but it seems to be okay now. And for the record, its VG-photo. :)

The lounge would have been out on this trip as we had the kids. It would have been really cool to visit the Midway, which I could see from the hotel. Oh well, maybe next trip.

Your photo's are great, Eric. Hope you get the D80. I donno what the
diff is twix the D70 and the D80, but the D70 is a great camera. I know,
I own one.

Sorry... see how dashes screw people up! It would be more of an issue if you were relying on PPC advertising.

The Midway is awesome. The have a SBD Dauntless and an Avenger.

I'm trying to move to San Diego......

Thanks gents. The last 2 years of this have been a real blast, and it's only getting better. :) I got called today to do another air-to-air on August 25. I will let you guys wait and see the subject matter. It's uber cool for me! It will also be another article for the Atlantic Flyer.

Some shots from the Saturday shoot. FUN!

Good job Eric. Keep this up and what you do for a living may take an interesting turn. I only did a commisioned job once and that was for a wedding shoot. I found it just a big pain in the neck but then it just involve ordering people about and telling them were to stand.
Air to air must be great fun, no sodding about panning with huge lenses and you get to buzz about in planes as well, brilliant.
Looks like now you have your foot in the door things can only get better I wish more power to your shutter Eric you deserve it.

Cheers Lee! I have had a few people tell me lately that a change of vocation is in my future. We shall see, I am taking it as it comes and enjoying it. Wedding photography doesn't really interest me, although photographing people can be a neat challenge. I like more candid shots anyway.

I think I do my best work air-to-air. You are right about the lens, I shoot air to air with my 6 oz 28-80 lens as opposed to the 5 pound Bigma. Having a place to sit with an awesome view is a huge plus. :)

Cheers Crashgate. I feel that I do my best work air to air.

Here are some shot from today. I am exhausted, 5 hours of driving and 2 hours of aerial combat. But what a day! I flew a Marchetti against an Extra 300. I experience going beyond the performance envelope of the aircraft. When you do that, the airplane starts to buffet. You just ease out of the stick when it happens to get it to stop, but by that point, you have bled a lot of energy. That got me killed in that engagement. I forced the Extra into a spin while maneuvering, which lined me up for a shot.

It was about 100 degrees F in the cockpit and the bleed air was pumping hot air too. I think I sweat a few gallons today and probably lost a good 5-10 pounds. I would have been sweating even if it's hadn't been hot, so add the heat and it takes it right out of you.

The fights went through the vertical and horizontal planes, rolling, twisting, cuban 8, high and low yo-yos, the works. Several times we pulled 4.5 to 5 Gs. About halfway through the second fight, the heat and the Gs got to me and I got queasy. But I toughed out three more dogfights.

What an amazing experience. I have a lot more respect for fighter pilots now than I did before. It is a tough job.

These photos were taken with my wife's point and shoot by my opponent's wife. I didn't bring the Nikon along.

It was great. I have 2 video tapes from the fights, but they are on mini DV tapes, and I don't have a player. I am going to see if I can rent one today. I'd like to get it ripped down to the computer so I can edit and have some fun with the video. I got to watch a little bit at the ops office and it was really cool!

I can tell you for sure that after doing this, there isn't a PC based sim that could even come close. Flying a dogfight on a PC is simple and it is fun, don't get me wrong. But doing the real thing is hard work.
