NEW YORK — Former New York Giant Plaxico Burress has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge in the weapons case against him and has agreed to a two-year prison term for accidentally shooting himself at a Manhattan nightclub.

The ex-wide receiver pleaded guilty Thursday morning to one count of attempted criminal possession of a weapon. Under a plea agreement, he agreed to a two-year prison sentence and two years of supervised release.

Burress was indicted earlier this month on two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and one count of reckless endangerment. He faced a minimum sentence of 3 1/2 years if convicted at a trial.

He shot himself for crying out loud. What an idiot!

Exactly the expression the guy on ESPN used. Burriss is an idiot!

Does anyone remember his first preseason game, way back, when he played for Pittsburgh? Caught the ball over the middle, ran a bit and fell without anyone touching him. He then jumps up and spikes the ball.

An on the ball Cornerback runs over, grabs the ball and runs it in for a TD.

Nobody touched him so Idiot Burress had technically fumbled when he spiked the ball.

He shoots himself and gets 2 years, but if he killed somebodu while DUI he would have gotten 21 days. There is just something wrong with the legal system.

Yep. Not to go too far off topic, but apart from the 30 days he got for killing a person as a result of driving drunk, Donte Stallworth should be banned from the NFL for life, IMHO.

My dad says that a lot of the time. This is a true story. My dad comes home from work one day and he was like " Today a man went to the high school with his son and started beating another kid, The two men were arrested and are awaiting there prison sentence."

A week later he comes home, " You won't believe it! The two men were found innocent! The cameras caught them on tape and everything."

I just don't get it.

There's a lot of factoring that goes into the determination of what to charge someone with.

Sometimes good people who are doing a lawful activity make a terrible mistake.

Then there are people of dubious character who do something that's plainly extremely dangerous.

That's the difference between a DUI charge of 21 days, and a two year charge for bringing a loaded weapon into a public place.
