The thread is Girls and Aircraft and that's a lot of girls.
Just pulled it out of a nice cool hangar. Looks like they put some kind of light colored fabric over the black rubber deice boots.

It was tried during the war, while the mechanical work/standard of maintenance was excellent the electrical draw from the massed curling irons caused repeated blackouts both on the base but also the surrounding area
