Nice shots Hugh.
A darned shame that such buildings are so badly damaged. Hopefully, they can be repaired (and strengthened ?) before the next quake.
 
There are plans to restore and strengthen the buildings but it is taking time. Particularly trying to maintain the original look of the buildings whilst still strengthening them.

Next set, more earthquake damage showing the evidence of the new lack of high rise buildings in the centre of town and the famous container mall built to replace some of the shopping centres...







 
5 years may be too short to recover fully but I remember I found great hope for the future when I saw a lot of brilliant young people walking cheerfully in the destroyed town of Kobe a few weeks after the massive earthquake hit in 1995. It was a flashback of 1945 to me. Nice shots
