Growing old has it's hazards and one of those, is when your Mom starts passing things down.

Case in point, I was just given a "picklehaub" today, that's been in the family for ages. While I am thrilled to have it, I'd much rather be that kid that looked up at it on the cabinet and wonder about it. :(

Looks to be in good condition. Any known story behind it?
I never heard much about about our relative's experiences and it likely falls along the lines of most veterans who prefer not to revisit their hell. An example: I have their rifle (passed down to me decades ago) and it bears gruesome scars on it - both in the blood etching on the muzzle/bayonnette lug area and deep grooves on the stock (that conform to Allied helmet rims) but it's a fantastic hunting rifle.

The cockades were replaced at some point and I suspect the "Adler" was as well. The tin rim, ridge and "spike" are original, as is the band and chin-strap.
