Captain Robin Olds first achieved "Ace" status flying in a P-38J flying with the 479th FG.

Robin Olds, son of Major General Robert Olds, was born in July of 1922 and grew up around "Hap" Arnold, Billy Mitchell, Ira Eaker, Carl "Tooey" Spaatz, and the list goes on. To say he was of USAAF royalty would be an understatement. He came of age at the beginning of the US involvement in WWII and after graduating from Westpoint, he followed on to flight training. He graduated in May of 1943 from flight school receiving his wings from Gen Henry "Hap" Arnold. A year later he arrived in Scotland with the 479th FG, 434th FS flying P-38's. Of note was the name of all his aircraft, Scat. Scat Davies was a flight training friend of Robins and he failed the flight physical due to poor eyesight. Robin vowed he would take Scat up with him every time he flew and he kept that promise through his entire career. He would name his aircraft a successive number for Scat, even after the war and into the new Air Force, even when it was discouraged to do so he would find a way to do it. His P-38J-15-LO 43-28341 will be the subject of this build. He would get his first five aerial victories in the P-38J airframe before converting to the P-51D. The P-38 would carry the name SCAT II.

So show me the way to go home.
I'm tired and I want to go to bed.
I had a little drink about an hour ago and it went right to my head!

So I just opened the plastic! I gotta say, I'm not that impressed! I ordered an Aires 1/48 P38J Cockpit Set and an Eduard Brassin 1:48 P-38J Turbochargers air intakes for this kit.

Far as I know,, this is the earlier release - the later tooled version, under the Academy label, is much better, and quite nicely detailed.
