Heller 1/72nd F6F-5 Hellcat

Cockpit canopy and windscreen are now glued. Antenna is attached and shunt to transceiver is made (hole drilled in port side aft of cockpit and inserted).

Thanks guys for the nice comments. I enjoyed this one very much. But the wing joint was very problemattic and would not look good without considerable filing/sanding. Neat little kit, but not for the young ones unless you are willing to live with a rather severe fault.

Oh and Lucky yes. Compared with the A6M5, the Hellcat was huge. The Hellcat was twice the weight of the Zeke and had almost 10ft more in wingspan.

I just found your build and had to follow it. I'm a 1/72 fan and is seems most of my models are the same (As I call it) El-Cheap-O's I find myself getting. Aside from the obvious raised pannel lines you made a great model. If I may I have a few questions for you.

I'm building a 1/72 Testors Corsair and I wish I saw how you handled the cowl flaps before I glued mine in place. The thickness bothers me to no end and I didn't know how to fix it. Well now I know for the next time.

The Corsair has the same drop tank as your Hellcat. Do you know if it would have the same straps holding it in place?

What is the white line on the fuselage between the stars and bars and the 32?

How did you attach the aerial to the fuselage?

As much as I complain about the El-Cheap-O kits I buy I love it when it all comes together and actually looks like an airplane. You did a sensational job with this one. I look forward to seeing more of your builds.

PS, the Dark Sea Blue looks fantastic.
