Good question. I believe that, in general, this was fairly common in the Luftwaffe. Perhaps some of our 'experten' can shed more light?

I believe Prussian chivarly was a mainstay in the Luftwaffe.

I remember reading about an "Experten" that always tried to aim for engine for his aerial kills, tried as much as he could to avoid hitting the pilot....can't remember who it was though.

That's the guy. He was still a General in the modern (then) West German Luftwaffe.
He was on a documentary a few years ago, visiting RAF and W.German jet fighter squadrons. A gentleman and all round nice guy.

I do think modelings is educational. It's not commonly applied knowledge but it can come in handy.
