Spooky stuff Glenn. Me and buddy were fishing on Squawka River at the head of Jervis Inlet, prime grizzly country. We were paddling downstream in a plastic Sportyak and came upon a large log jam which made the river fork. Buddy went down the main stream and I went down the fork looking for the easiest portage. I climbed down off the log jam and across the river, about 60 metres away was a grizzly, foraging in the grass. I looked around for climbing trees but there was only poplars around. The grizz stopped eating and looked at me. I took out my Uncle Henry 5" folding blade, said quietly to the bear, "I'm just gonna go back the way I came", and met buddy back at the boat. Fastest portage we ever made to get to running water
