In the UK we buy 'poppies' - plastic flowers which we pin to our clothes as a collective way of saying 'I remember'.
The 'poppy' is a symbol of the carnage of the First World War - as in the poppy fields of Flanders - the red symbolising the blood of the fallen.
The poppy is sold in the weeks leading up to Rememberance Day, with the proceeds going to the British Legion - a charitable association for service personnel.
