Karl

I bit the bullet and ordered a decal set for my Mustang with the markings for Lt. John E Davenport. 352nd Fighter Squadron. P-51C 42-103363 SX-M "Lucky Leaky II".

After I ordered it found out it is a late model with a fillet on the tail!

more work:cry:

Mike

Mike - if it helps, that serial number C did not have the ventral fin when it left the factory - It probably was retrofitted in the November, 1944 to January 1945 period.

Thanks for that
The only clear photo so far shows it with the fillet, but it does look like an after thought:lol:
I'll check the other options on the sheet when it comes in

Cheers

wayne - you wouldn't be stepping on Karl's toes doing a D.

the challenge on the D's is the lettering on the canopy rail - when I last did a 1:32 Hasegawa I was able to pirate the smalle identification letters under the decals on a 1:48 Monogram B-17 and B-24..

That does look like a dilemma, those letters are mighty small...especially if I run with a 1/48 Mustang...

It's a very good idea! probably have to be an 'unofficial' GB, as there's enough going on already, but I'm up for it!
Wayne, printing ordinary lettering decals, even on a ink jet printer, is fairly straightforward. Depending on colour, and the background it's going onto, the density might not be as good as commercial decals, but good enough, and hardly noticeable with small lettering, especially in a small scale.

I am flattered, he would be also.

That would be really cool but Clay Kinnard's various Man O'Wars were very distinctive with the widest range of color/camo schemes with 355th (WRA)/4th(QPA)/355th(WRA) a/c. would offer one of the best ETO variances in the 8th AF.

The pretty familiar WRP in the color photo wa s Kinnard's WR-A shortly after it was recoded WRP. Kinnard got the first P-51D in the 355th just after D-Day. The kill markings on WR-P were removed shortly after this pic was taken.

QP-A on the hasegawa box was accurately portrayed. Interestingly (to me) QPA 44-14292 was one serial number removed from my father's first P-51D (44-14293). Neither survived the war.
