Karl
I bit the bullet and ordered a decal set for my Mustang with the markings for Lt. John E Davenport. 352nd Fighter Squadron. P-51C 42-103363 SX-M "Lucky Leaky II".
After I ordered it found out it is a late model with a fillet on the tail!
more work

Mike - if it helps, that serial number C did not have the ventral fin when it left the factory - It probably was retrofitted in the November, 1944 to January 1945 period.
Maybe I should tackle a Marshall Mustang too....
copy cat !!!!
....only 'cause I did the 190 due to Erich's connection....ok won't step on toes.....will let you do this tribute my friend!
you know i was only kidding mate, have you not done a P-51 yet !!! ?
wayne - you wouldn't be stepping on Karl's toes doing a D.
the challenge on the D's is the lettering on the canopy rail - when I last did a 1:32 Hasegawa I was able to pirate the smalle identification letters under the decals on a 1:48 Monogram B-17 and B-24..
That does look like a dilemma, those letters are mighty small...especially if I run with a 1/48 Mustang...
Make a decal using a spreadsheet like Excel you can size the lettering really small and it should come out reasonably clear if you print it with a laser printer.
