I was talking to a guy at our airfield who had been flying helicopters for the USCG at the time of Katrina about the mess in NC. In response he seemed to describe a different era.

They were ferrying a chopper back from Arizona and landed at NO to refuel and overnight. In the wee hours there was a banging on his door. One of his crew asked, "Have you seen the radar? That hurricane is coming here! We need to go now!"

They flew back to FL and immediately got loaded up and flew back to NO, where they rescued people from the flooded city, nonstop. After a few days their commander showed up and and said. "I've been wondering what happened to you guys! Did you think about getting any orders to come here?"

They replied, "Orders? People needed help!"

Think how much better it would have been if they had used the engine coolant as part of the process!

Oh, that's right. VW Bug. They have to use the windshield washer fluid which would have made only Irish Coffee possible and resulted in drunk driving citations.
