Very true, but many were the end result of stone picking to make fields suitable for ploughing. As Canada, so UK, was glaciated, much debris was dropped -- so called 'erratics', farmers had big families that could be put to work off season turning 'lemons' into lemonade.

In this case these walls appear to me made of shale in which case it would NOT have been dropped by the glaciers, IMO.
