The grime around the cowling is really effective.

Seriously authentic looking, this model could easily be taken for real in the right setting. Any light, camera angle or lens would not change the attributes that makes this model so realistic. My greatest respect and compliments to this modeler. My favorite plane also....

-As an aside, shouldn't that 'A-5' read A-6 though? (Note the inboard undercarriage doors.)
My guess is it's an A-6/R-2. It also has the badge of the German experimental aircraft unit-can't remember the name off-hand, but have it in a book at home.

A4K, the aircraft is definitely an A-5/U12 Werk Nummer 410266, flown by Leutnant Erich Hondt of 2/JG11 early October 1943. The emblem on the cowling is the 2 Staffel emblem of JG11 and was the winning submission from a competition when the staffel was activated in May 1943.

Was the A-5/U-12 a prototype for the A-6 series to have had those undercarriage doors? I'm wondering now if A-4's had them-if so maybe early A-5's retained them?
(Hope you don't think I'm criticizing BTW, I wish I had half your talent. I'm just interested in the details that's all - I guess I fall into the 'rivet counter' category)

Yep, you're right, (of course). Apparently there were 2 Fw 190A-5/U-12's built, which were externally identical to the A-6/R-1. I have a photo of one of them (??+CC) in a couple of books. The Fw 190A-5/U-11 and U-12's were fitted with the A-4 inner undercarriage doors, although to the best of my knowledge no other A-5 versions had them.
Regarding the emblem, the test and evaluation unit I was referring to was Erprobungsstelle 8/JG 11 and the only difference is in the way the guy's arm is folded (Unless the Saxonwold museum in South Africa got it wrong when they restored their Fw 190A-6/R-2 of that unit)
You really did do a beautiful job with those 190's, I hope mine turn out as well.

Evan, for your reference the 2 aircraft were BH+CC W.Nr. 150813 and BH+CD, W.Nr. 150814 the 3rd and 4th from the block 0150811 - 959 from Focke Wulf, Sorau.
Aircraft with this armament were supplied to III/JG 2, JG 1 and JG 11.

Likewise, and thanks for the info Wayne! I wanted to model BH+CC a long time ago in 1:72, but lacked the first two code letters and serial!
One question remains though..if only 2 A-5/U-12's were made, Werk nummern being 150813 and 150814, then how come yours is 410266 ? Isn't it really an A-6/R-1 then?

Evan, as I understand it, 813 and 814 were the 2 experimental aircraft designated U12 to test the weapons. It (U12)became one of 2 designations as R1 for the A-6,7 and 8. It would appear that the original U12 was still used for a short time for the A-5 series as it is clear that the gun pods were used on operational aircraft, how many? don't know.
Black 13 was part of the A-5 series built at Ago-Werke, Oschersleben. Werk Nummer block 410 001 to 410 275.
