This a little difficult for me as I have at least 8000 books, magazines & memorabilia that I have been collecting for the past 60 years, with the earliest originals being from the 1910's. Due to space restrictions, the majority of them are boxed up & stored.
I am at the stage that I want to donate them to people or organisations that can appreciate them.
If anyone is interested or knows a museum or similar that would be, please contact me. I am in Australia, so sending things overseas could be cost prohibitive.

Sounds like one of those forced, hard, down size decisions. My message is probably not going to sound right and full of statements of the obvious, but to start with, are you trying to keep the collection together? What sort of public access would you like? How about you retaining access? Do you have a list of titles?
Air Britain offer a second hand book sale service with a warehouse in Britain, they might be able to give ideas about services in Australia. There are other second hand book sellers.
WWII is passing out of collective interest, so libraries etc. tend to be cutting their book collections, magazines might be of more interest if they are trying to be a library of record. Trying the state libraries or the National Library of Australia in Canberra would probably be worthwhile. There are the various aviation museums but, for example, the Moorabbin one in Victoria tends to act as a reseller rather than a reference collection. The RAAF Museum at Point Cook seems to be more dedicated to preservation but it is not that big. Most individuals expressing interest are probably baby boomers, so they are more likely to provide a temporary home, not a multi decade solution.
Memorabilia might be an auction site item, at least if people pay for it they are likely to keep it, if the museums are unable to take or display them.
When it comes to shipping, 8,000 items are probably heavy enough the freight forwarding people could do it at much cheaper rates than the postal and courier system. Orders like this help fill containers and semi trailers, just get things to the 200kg/400-500lb region.
I expect plenty of people, like me, who would be very interested in parts of the collection but dealing with them would be a lot of work, require ways to pay you for freight at least and risk you being left with a lot of items anyway.
