The ashes of Sean Misner, one of the 19 firefighters who died last week in Arizona, were being transported by his wife back to their hometown on Tuesday. She was in his truck and is pregnant with their unborn child. On every overpass for nearly 500 miles there was a tribute similar to this. Pretty damn remarkable and worthy of more media coverage than most of the other stuff that has been on tv lately. Wanted to share because our media has seemed to overlook it.

Bodies drawn on Normandy beach to commemorate D-Day deaths on International Peace Day

The seaside town of Arromanches, France, looked quite different over the weekend. Nine thousand silhouettes were hand-drawn in the sand on the Normandy beach to commemorate the soldiers and civilians who died on June 6, 1944. This stirring tribute, called "The Fallen," was conceived by British artists Jamie Wardley and Andy Moss, who enlisted the help of 200 volunteers to mark the International Day of Peace over the weekend. It took two years to prepare for the project, and the results, which were ultimately washed away by the tide, were heartbreaking. "All around us there are relics of the Second World War, but the one thing that is missing are the people that actually died," Wardley said. "We've very quietly made a big statement."

That's what they are there for.

First one is from the Civil War.
Next two are WWI - just to give sense of how it was.
Next are Russians getting ready to enter the Battle of Kursk.
Next just grabbed me. Just walking along until an opening.....then run like hell!
Next is from a Pacific Island.
and the last few are from the past 10 years......

:salute:

...and for those who have never experienced it, the Arlington Cemetary Tomb of the Unknowd with the changing of the guard is a memory that will never be forgotten.
