I got the book FW190/Ta152 from Manfred Griehl and Joachim Dressell. On the page 185 there are 3 pics of V18 with that exhaust pipe. There´s written that this was a test machine with DB603 with 'Abgasturbine'.
Was heisst 'Abgasturbine'? Turbolader, oder?

According to this specification The FW 190 V18/U1 this DB603 really had turbocharger instead of compressor.

Hmmm, looking at this picture it had both compressor (on the engine) and turbocharger (under the fuselage).
Michael, I´m sorry I´m bothering with these details in Speyer thread...

Hi Seesul you are right,
the exhaust driven Turbosupercharger was a precompressor for the normal engine driven supercharger.
It failed completely in this role.
