Thank folks and Aaron, that purple ball thingy is an Allium, otherwise known as an onion flower.

Thanks also Andy, I've corrected my colourful English.

Nearest thing I have to one of those monsters Aaron is a chive flower……………..

The next place we called into in the gardeners paradise was the Gardens of Heligan in Cornwall.

The story goes that when this guy was walking his dog one day through an overgrown cops, the dog disappeared and all the fellow could hear was his dog yelping but could not see it. He eventually found the dog struggling in a pond that was deep beneath the surrounding trees. In reality the pond had been covered by decades of falling trees and had become overgrown with brambles and other native bushes.

Research found that beneath all this overgrown woodland was an old stately garden that belonged to the former stately home just up the hill. The stately home had long been sectioned off into flats and the garden long forgotten, possibly since the end of WWI.

The gardens have now been returned to their former glory by a band of dedicate volunteers and are open to the public. Here are a few of the pics taken during this short visit.

Thanks for looking in folks.

So to continue, after the Cornwall trip to see my nephew we returned to Blackpool where we spent some more time with my mum before hightailing it back down south to Pompey (Portsmouth) for a visit with an old friend from my roaming days when I spent some time in Oman with the Royal Oman Air Force

We had a great couple of days and did a lot of wandering and some drinking. Follows a little review of the wandering.

HMS Warrior that still floats majestically in the Naval Dockyard and is open to the public.

Not sure who this is in the dock in the foreground but behind is the carrier HMS Illustrious, sadly now gone to scrap in the UK budget cuts.

Here we have the Spinnaker Tower, a millennium addition to the skyline of Pompey that did not open until 2005.

A much better view of HMS Illustrious taken from the top of the Spinnaker.

A cross bay (Isle of White) ferry arriving.

Another view of HMS Warrior.

One of the old dry dock now a residence and recreation area.

The pride of the Royal Navy, Lord Nelsons Flag ship from the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, HMS Victory.

It's been a while folks but here are a few more shots for you to swoon over, well maybe not swoon, but ponder, yes

My Matlow mate laid on a couple of specials for us while in Pompey.

This spectacular sun set, and

HMS Ark Royal returning to port following the anniversary of the Falkland War held in London. The harbour tug is almost under the bow but the carrier is not in tow and came in under her own steam. You may not believe this either but there was a chap out in that channel having a swim. Now I ask you, would any sane man swim in the shipping channel…………..the water in the UK anyway is too damn cold.

To cap this session off, a hovercraft swishing in from the Isle of White and a huge P&O Ferry that plies the rounds between Portsmouth and Spain.
