Nice of you to look in folks. Today we are still in New York and going on a gourmet trip to the Chelsea Markets down in 16th Street West. We had a tour guide who just loved what he was doing and he was a typical New Yorker with the gift of the gab. The Chelsea Markets are housed within what was once one of the buildings owned by the National Biscuit Company. The building now contains a variety of food and wine establishments, many of them unique in what they sell.

These first few pics show some of the produce at Eleni's, a cup cake and biscuit shop. I'm no great fan of cup cakes but believe me, these were out of this world, consequently on our next New York visit, this is a place you will find me, diet or no diet.

Yet another example of some of the food we scoffed and scoffed is the proverbial word, for most of what we were offered was consumed before the camera could be swung into action. In truth though, if I'd stopped to take a pic or two I'd have missed out on the treats.

These early factory building were serviced by a raised railway that came as a spur from the main New York Central Railroad and was a means of getting produce in and out of the factories without congesting the heavy city traffic. Needless to say, today it is no longer used as such and so a group of folks got together and partitioned for it to be turned into a recreational facility that would benefit all New Yorkers. Today it is known as the High Line and is a walkway and recreation area well frequented by New Yorkers and tourists alike.

This one tickled my fancy, out on 15th Street West and we have a pavement no dig garden.

Really cool pics you're getting there, Vic!

The padlock thing is a romantic tradition, you're supposed to keep one key and go back on an anniversary and find the lock (with your sweetheart, of course), the other key you toss into the water.

Rosi and I have a padlock on the Academy Bridge (Ponte dell'Accademia) in Venice!
(I'd post a pic, but don't want the guys ribbing me for being mushy)

Well it's out in the open now me old mucker!!

Thanks for that input as well for it's not the only pic I have of padlocked bridges. An if I go to Venice again, I'll look Ponte dell'Accademia and snap a few pics to see if you recognise you lock.

Thanks for checking in folks, nice to see.

Still in today just a few fleeting pics of my visit to the USS Intrepid, I wanted to do this last time round but as always happens, one runs out of time. I was impressed with the whole set up and what a bl00dy big ship, they also gave a very realistic narrative of Intrepid's history during WWI, it was an eye opener.

I was also very fortunate and proud to meet a 94 year old veteran on the flight control bridge of the Intrepid. He was a P-38 pilot during WWII and enlisting early in 1942 soon after Americas entry into the war, he was trained on P-38 and moved into the European Theatre of war, flying more than 104 or maybe it was 140 missions, before returning to the States. He remained in the USAAF for the duration of the war and had some wonderful tails to tell. For me it was an honour and a privilege to talk with him, I must have monopolised him for a good 40 minutes and was so enthralled that I forgot to get a picture taken. It is a memory that I will cherish to my dying day.

Anyway, here are a few shots from that day on the flight deck, the only one from the inside being the huge replica of the Intrepid made from Lego. Outside of that I did get some close-up pics of aircraft, mainly the F-14 for a future build and the Avenger below deck.
