Thanks guys. Once again were on the road heading north to our destination. The second largest city in Portugal, Porto. This is the home of Port and over the next few days we get to sample a glass or two………………or three………….or four……………..It was lucky I'm kind of partial to a drop or two…………

This is the Queen Isabel, the reason for our coming to Porto, this ship will take us up the Douro River almost into Spain.

Before embarking on the cruise, a little look at this ancient city of Porto. Sao Francisco Church which is very unimpressive from the outside but leaves one gobsmacked when within. It is jokingly reputed to have all the gold of Brazil coating its walls and columns. I have to say it was quite impressive.

This is the famed Sao Francisco Tree of Jesse, again eye boggling. It depicts the twelve Kings of Judah. It is estimated that the church contains over 200kg of gold gilded into its internal wooden decoration.

Some of the architecture of Porto. Again we see those azulejos blue and white wall tiles decorating the buildings.

Many thanks for calling in guys. Today were still in Porto and are going to look at the most fantastic book shop and view some of the streets.

This is the Livraria Lello Irmão bookstore and what a place it is. Like lots of the architecture in Portugal, it's on a grand scale.

Thanks for calling in folks, so glad you're enjoying this show.

Were still in Porto taking in the sights and the abundance of free samples of port.
This is my good lady in the foreground at the main railway station, we just dropped in to admire the tiled walls.

Now to the nitty gritty of the day, the "Port Cellars". Thousands and thousands of litres of fermenting port.

A well known and renowned sign we will see plenty of over the next week. Sanderman Port and a lovely drop it is too.

A couple of boats that would have been the traditional means of bringing the port in barrels down the river for maturing in the cold storage cellars as above. Now these boats serve as a tourist attraction. Apologies for the focus on this 1st picture.

Saw this as we were walking back to the boat, millions of fish close to the shore in a kind of frenzy, for what I don't know.
