Thanks again for looking in folks. Were still in Portugal and about to start our cruise up the Rio Douro.

The river system is now made up of a series of dams and locks, each creating a long lake effect before the next lock. At times we were plying along a narrow river between steep vineyard or olive grove covered hills reaching down to the water's edge and yet the water always remained placid.

Beaut pics Vic. It's a place I've always wanted to visit properly, and never seem to get around to doing so - only had a brief visit to the Flying School at Faro where a friend was CFI for a while, years ago.
On my list of 'must go before too knackered' !

Beauty Vic. Read the opening sentence; "....about to start our cruise up the Rio Douro." and then saw the second photo.

Thanks folks and to continue the cruise, here is that caped man again or more to the point, in the second pic it's a young girl.
This was a visit to a mountain winery, the actual Sandeman brewery wher a few glasses of the fine liquid were tested long before lunch.

Yet more of the spectacular glazed ties, again in a railway station but this time just a small provincial stop on the single line track that winds up the river valley.

Thanks for the kind words folks and for looking in, I pleased you're still finding it worthwhile to do so.

Having made the most of the rural railway station, which I believe was now the end of the line even though the track still carried on up river. From her on in from what I gathered, the only way up river was by ferry or a very windy and hilly road.

The next day was spent just cruising on up river and we virtually had the boat to ourselves, with just a few other passengers. There was a road trip organised out for the day, visiting a couple of places with more port and some lunch but having been on the road now for almost 7 weeks, Hil and I opted to stay on board and relax the day away. Here are some of the striking views we encountered during that day.
