My baby girl headed off to college today.
She had planned to leave earlier, but last minute loose ends needed tying. So with a mix of pride and sadness, the Beautiful Wife and I waved goodbye as she drove her overladen Jeep down the driveway on her way to Bismarck. She gets to hang out with her older brother, who has his own apartment, until move in day in two weeks. I'm very excited for them both. Her brother is a senior this year, so he can show her the ropes.

School starts for my youngest tomorrow. He is a sophomore this year. One thing that has been causing me anxiety all summer was trying to figure out the logistics of getting him to and from school every day. It's a small private school that draws from the whole Minneapolis-St. Paul metro and beyond. We live about 20 miles away. Each year old family alliances are broken and new ones need to be formed as kids graduate, move on or move in. There are maybe a half dozen families that live on our side of town, one of which has graciously driven the morning carpool for several years. They are still willing to do it this year. Yes!
Yesterday I got an email from a family not far from us looking for a ride to soccer practice for their son who is starting there this year. He will be in my son's class and has enrolled in the same school sports as my son. Double yes!! That means we can split kid retrieval duties after practices. This is a huge relief knowing that my support network is in place.

Wife came and took my kids to the pig's house. This made me hot, but no court date yet. I have been taking a walk in the evenings to ease my stress and usually take one of the kids. Well, the adulterous spouse decided to hang onto the kids to spite me (as all but one wanted to come home) and I was late going on my walk. I decided to watch the last out of the Kittens at Chicago game and then head out. I went north instead of south and always walk around my neighborhood, which is pretty safe. I decided to head back early and as I was, police cars come racing by the street. It turns out some guy and his wife were on the porch when some guy came up to them, and shot the guy in the throat. I always walk that way or around that block almost every other evening. If I had headed that way, I would have right in the middle of that. So, this makes me happy to be breathing and adulterous spouse had me take the kids right home as soon as she heard about the shooting. Tonight the story had a happy ending.
