Wing Commander Paddy Barthropp, who died on April 16 aged 87, was one of the RAF's most ebullient and colourful characters; he fought in the Battle of Britain, escaped twice from prisoner-of-war camps and later became a test pilot and a winning jockey in Hong Kong. :salute:
