A quiet night for animals. Three black bears that bolted into the bush before the car stopped and this bull moose. He was on the side of the road until I stopped and ran about 100' into the bush. No matter what program I used, I couldn't focus completely on the moose; too much foreground clutter

Good stuff, Geo and Artesh.
Geo, in those instances, you'd need to use manual focus, and probably a "medium" depth of field, so probably f5.6 or f4 on the lens, with a shutter speed around 1/125th to 1/200th, maybe a tad faster.

Did not have my DSLR with zoom lens readily available, but here is 3 moose I saw today in the Rocky Mountain National Park.
