2010 World Cup - South Africa

Germans did play well. Didn't think that was a straight red though. Yellow yes but not a red, was from behind but studs weren't up.

Serbian's looked very poor against the Ghanian's who look good to finish second after the Aussie loss and the Red card of Cahill.

The other two teams in England's group both looked poor, should be easy wins there for them if they play well and they should score more goals against those to teams that the USA because of the attacking talent available. Green had a shocker yesterday but the whole team weren't great. I would like to see a 4-4-1-1 being played with Gerrard running off Rooney and a midfield of Lennon-Barry-Lampard-Joe Cole. Defence should stay similar lack of pace yes but should still be good enough to beat the other two teams and avoid Germany.

Alright Germany! That was a great game, especially for such a young side with very little experience. The future belongs to this great team!

Yeah, the ref had a poor game from the reports I read. Would be nice to see the red card recinded but I don't think that that will happen. I think Ghana will be second in that group now if Cahill is out for the next game which is against them. Aussie's should beat the Serbs on that performance against Ghana, poor would describe it.

Still the poorest display of the 'major' nations has to of been that of the French their were terrible, no desire at all.

France looks like a very tired/wear out team, however I am convinced that Greece was the worst so far, if they play against us like they did with Korea, well...that going to be a nice argentinian goalfest.

It was not deserving of a card. He fell, neither Cacau nor the Australian player did anything wrong. Play should have just continued.

he didn't just fall, I think he was looking for the free kick and he got found out. If the ref hadn't have found him out, he could conceivably have gotten the Aussie lad into trouble ie a booking of his own.

I honestly do not think that was his intention. He even went and talked to the ref after the game. If someone takes a dive, they deserve a card, but from what I saw, he simply fell. His reaction afterwords was to the fact that play had stopped. The ref should have let play continue without blowing the whistle.

Overall I think the refs were terrible in this game. Cahill certainly did not deserve a red card. Yellow would have been more than enough.

Yes, Germany played football like they should in a World Cup. Fast combinations, eagerness and goal getting. I enjoyed the game. If they become champion playing like that, they would be a most satisfying champion. But the Australians played very bad. Although the referee was bad, too. Starting the second half, he should have given the penalty when Lahm made hands. Maybe it would have been a different game, had it become 2-1.

I've seen two games so far.

England v USA was disapointing, my son was upset by the end of it. Gifting the equaliser like that seems to have shaken the England squad from their confident start, but I thought they were starting to come back into it for the last 20 minutes. England were not flowing as they have shown they can, also as they are traditionally slow starters in a tournament, I'm confident they will improve over their next couple of matches.

Germany v Australia was a great game to watch, and Germany seem back into their traditionally great flowing passing game; it was like watching a footballing showcase demonstration. The final result could easily have been more than 4-0 with quite a few open chances missed. Great and entertaining game.

Well,what can I say? It certainly wasn't worth getting up at 4am to watch that rubbish!
The Germans were so much faster and better in every way.
Socceroos look like a very old and tired team right now especially at the back.
I don't understand why neither Kewell or Bresciano were left out,very strange..
The red card was a joke,you can see Cahill realised he was too late and he tried to pull out of the tackle.Very clumsy and worthy of a yellow at the most imho.
There are a lot of talented and enthusiastic youngsters playing in the A-League down here and I think we will see more of them get a go after this tournament.We rely too much on our 'stars' from the Euro leagues who are getting older by the minute it seems.
Never mind,I always have England to fall back on lol!(and boy they were lacklustre too!)
The Dutch v Danes on shortly,that should be a cracker,I love the way the dutch play.

Dutch played the first game. My employer had aranged that we could watch, but due to technical problems I could not. I heard 2-0, one own goal by the Danish and one from Dirk Kuyt. Was it any good?

CB, I really, really want to go to Argentina!

thought Italy was going to roll over today that changed my mind the first 5 minutes of play they sucked. how the hey did Japan and Cameroon make it to the World cup ? they were terrible, I turned off the TV at the half !!! so far Germany is the only team that shows promise.

better for the US to wake up after the narrow tie they did with England and start playing or they are history..........

I have to admit, this has been one of the better years for the World Cup.

Hey, we won, too 2-0. Against the strongest opponent in the group. And the Danish were definitely better then the Aussies faced by the Germans. I think if this team grows to their full potential, the Germans have to watch themselves.

Match 1 of the group stages is a ridiculous time to be calling the winners and losers.
If tournaments were judged on that basis, Italy would never have qualified, let alone won anything; they are the archetypal late starters.

By the same token, the Argentina squad of 2006 would have walked away with the trophy at a canter.

In 2002, just about every big gun in the tournament went out at the group stages, who'd have predicted that?

I watched some of the Japan vs Cameroon game yesterday. Not understanding the game, I couldn't make heads
or tails of it. What's a yellow card for ? A foul ? I saw guys falling all over each other, so how can you tell who
fouled who ?

Gimme baseball..... any day !
