Robin Olds, son of Major General Robert Olds, was born in July of 1922 and grew up around "Hap" Arnold, Billy Mitchell, Ira Eaker, Carl "Tooey" Spaatz, and the list goes on. To say he was of USAAF royalty would be an understatement. He came of age at the beginning of the US involvement in WWII and after graduating from Westpoint, he followed on to flight training. He graduated in May of 1943 from flight school receiving his wings from Gen Henry "Hap" Arnold. A year later he arrived in Scotland with the 479th FG, 434th FS flying P-38's. Of note was the name of all his aircraft, Scat. Scat Davies was a flight training friend of Robins and he failed the flight physical due to poor eyesight. Robin vowed he would take Scat up with him every time he flew and he kept that promise through his entire career. He would name his aircraft a successive number for Scat, even after the war and into the new Air Force, even when it was discouraged to do so he would find a way to do it. His P-51D-25-NA 44-72922 will be the subject of this build. Major (at the time) Olds would get a further seven kills in the P-51 to bring his WWII total to 12 kills. The subject of this build is named SCAT VII.
My intention should I complete this and the P-38 will be to add SCAT XVIII F-4C to the builds as well but I'm not going to get to far ahead of myself on that.
I have a resin cockpit but it's not for this kit and I'm not really sure I'll want to use it as well as a Verlindan Engine and gun bay set for the Tamiya kit. I doubt I'll use them.
Oh show me the way to go home,
I'm tired and I want to go to bed.
I had a little drink about an hour ago and it went right to my head!
