pic 1 - upper wing sanded and primed.

pic 2 - building up the inside of the tail. The 307 had a slightly steeper outline of the tail and will need to be re-contoured.

I am planning on leaving 2/3 of the wood inside for stability. I will hollow out a cockpit area with very rudimentary details as not much can be seen through the windows and possibly a row of seats down the starboard side. Port side windows will be painted out as was the case when the 5 extra gas tanks were added along that side.

Sounds good Andy, and I think I'd probably do the internals the same way. It only needs a hint of interior detail, and then only in those areas which can be seen. It's a good idea to leave the wood 'core' too, as it saves having to construct bracing and bulkheads etc, which aren't needed if the interior can't be seen anyway.
Looking forward to seeing it all come together mate - should be an impressive model. Wish I still had that 1/48th conversion kit (I think it was from Contrail?), as I'd do a civilian version.

pic 2 - insert for rudder extension. 307 rudder was much longer and with an extra hinge.

Using a shortened version of the DC-3 cowling from the Monogram kit I pulled 4 cowlings on the Mattel vacuform machine.
