I worked on Black 12 in dribs and drabs during the week. Bathroom reno is taking a lot of my time as are other issues. I started by replacing the pitot tube with a more dainty version. Unfortunately I wasted the stripe decal on the other one I chucked out so I ended up using a red felt pen over white paint on this one. Also fixed up the nav light.
The wheels have gone on and these have been weathered .
The engine needed a bit more detail and I started with adding the flash tube over the machine gun. Rolled tape and aluminum tape did the trick.
This is how the engine looks as of now. The flash tube is painted. The exhaust deflector from the above pic bothered me so I removed it and reshaped it by cutting a slice off the back and gluing it in an upright fashion along the back edge based on reference photos. The firewall received two more wires and the throttle actuator rod and crank. Still a bit more to do yet and I hope to get a chance over this long weekend.

I started today by adding a bit of detail to the already nice kit-supplied cowl. Here's how it looked before I started, painted and post shaded:
Clearly, if one is to display this cowl open, the supercharger intake looks inadequate so I set about drilling it out and installing a piece of plastic tube that I had thinned down. I also drilled out the cowl fasteners and fashioned some from plastic card to hang loosely from the openings. When done, all were painted 02 and a black seal ring was painted on the supercharger duct.
Mt attention then turned back to the canopy where I installed some stretched sprue grab handles on the windscreen, the shoulder belts, the restraining cable for the hinged canopy, and struts for the armour plate.
The antenna wire was made of nylon invisible mending thread and the insulator cones of card.
Finally, the cowl was attached along with the strut for holding it open. Also seen here are the fastener posts I added since last time. One is at the base of the strut and the other is just above the forward exhaust stack
Almost done now. Should post some finished pics tomorrow gents.

Well, I'm calling this one done. The last few items completed were paint the antenna insulator on the fuselage above the cross white, blew a bit more dust colour where the dark green was too bright, and edged the open cowl and fastener openings with 02. Here's a full gamut of pics, some of which I'll also post in a finished thread and a few minutes. Since taking these pics, I also flattened the tires before placing the model into my display case to hibernate until next year's contest season.
