Cutting the masks is very simple, 5 min job, and because these decals (if I used them) have a large area of clear film, application needs to be spot on, otherwise I get silvering, so to me it makes sense to do it. 8)

More progress on painting these past couple of days.
I painted all the lower surfaces Model Masters LichtBlau RLM76, then used RLM 66 for the preshading. Finally, over the top, some more RLM 76. Flap interior was I believe was RLM 02, so I will go over this area again just prior to installing the flaps.
I've just finished the major painting on this bird.

I attached the canopy temporarily with pva glue and sprayed the outside RLM 66 as a first step

Masking off the wings and tail surfaces, I applied Model Masters RLM 75 Gray-Violet to these surfaces.

Once completed, I then masked off for the MM RLM 74 Gray-Green. Tamiya provide a 1:48 drawing in their kits, so it is easy to cut out the pattern and use these as masks.

After finishing off the camo pattern, I then added the splotches with 74 and 75 as near as I could manage to the references I have.

Okay, with that all done it was time to remove all the masks and see how it turned out.
