Thanks-you all. Very kind.

Well today I spent 6 hours working on drawings for our Hurricane restoration so managed only to get a tiny bit done on this project. I addressed one of the known shortcomings of this kit - the overly bulbous spinners. To rectify this, I once again set up my "lathe" by clamping my power drill into the vice on my workbench, stuck the props in the chuck, turned on the drill and filed down the profile of the spinner and polished the finished spinner with sanding pads. The following pics show the set up, before, and after, respectively.

The result is not perfect but better than when started so it's onward and upward.

Very nice work and I hope that you can slide this one in under the deadline! I really wanted to do something similar with the prop spinner but I didn't have the right equipment. Very brave to do this with the prop blades on!

Pretty much have to do it that way as the spinner needs to be firmly glued to the back plate so it does not fly off under the pressure of holding the file against it while turning.

Yes but the prop blades (at least on my kit) can be inserted into the spinner after the backplate is glued on. Regardless... it's a good mod... pretty noticeable.

Off ya go then.

Installing some final touches before paint: raised armour panels made of aluminum tape and the start of the small intakes at the wing roots. These are roughed in right now by squashing down some round rod into an oblong shape and CA gluing them to the leading edge. After these are dry and secure, I'll drill into the wing and file them to shape. Before doing that, I will do a bit more digging to see if I can confirm these existed on the G-6. I know they were there on the G-1 for sure.

Yeah, I'm beginning to think they weren't there on the G-6. This is the only pic I could find showing the wing roots at a decent distance. It almost looks like the shape is there but that the opening was faired over. Could be shadow as well.

Thanks guys. I decided to delete the wing root intakes so will get on with that. Plan is to get the RLM76 down this weekend and maybe some of the 75 patches.

The weekend's work so far. I took a page from John's book to break-up the underside colour by preshading the panel lines and adding some patches of black before painting a thin coat of 76. The top surface received much less of this treatment, since the paint will be broken up by patches of 75 and then covered yet again with a squiggle pattern which will nullify any preshading effect. The sequence of pictures speak for themselves, and and with how I packed it in for the night with the 75 patches done. The next step will be to apply a clear coat and get the decals on as the Wellen were applied around the insignia.
