Andy, those are without a doubt some of the best seatbelts I've ever seen done, and the weathering is on par the best I've ever seen. Incredible work!

Thanks Don. I actually don't like these belts. The buckles and clasps are painted on but the plus is that they drape nicely, being some kind of vinyl material. If the belt material was combined with PE buckles then I think these belts would be much better.

I do appreciate your comments though and thank-you for the kudos.

Thanks for the comments and the likes everyone.

The next step in the build is to attach the front windscreen but first I wanted to get the interior frames painted. I made the inner masks using the cut-outs from the backing paper of the kit-supplied outer masks as templates and shot some RLM 02 inside.

With the inner masks removed, the compass was carefully glued in. There's a decal for the compass face and I dabbed on some PVA glue to make the glass.

The last thing I did before installing the windscreen was to add the flap actuator chain which I made from stretched sprue. You can see it below just aft of the yellow throttle handle.

With that all done, on went the windscreen which turned out to be a perfect fit. Kudos to Tamiya here. Another framing piece was then installed behind it and the engine was also glued in.

Say good-bye to the engine though as the cowls will now go on and hide everything but what you can see through the air inlet. This kit has been a pleasure to build so far and the fit is amazing. However, that seam on the wings behind the flaps and ailerons is proving to be more of a pain than I had hope and I continue to work this area. More on that in the next instalment.

Thanks everyone. Seam on the wing in the flap area filled once with primer, sanded, painted, filled again with primer and sanded again. Below, the wing on top is partly finished its second sanding.

The engine cowling fit was OK but also needs work. No pics of that area yet.

Thank-you Glenn.

Today saw severe air quality warnings due to wildfires so I cancelled out of my golf game and stayed inside. This was taken this morning and it's not got any better (Source CBC News):

I think I'll move to Beijing.

Anyway, indoor life allowed for some bench time so I set about preparing the model for paint. I decided to do the major painting with the wings detached from the fuselage owing to the need for good access and angles to do the wave pattern. The various struts would have made for frustrating airbrush sessions and given that the fit of the parts has been stellar for the most part I figured I could get away with it with minimal grief.

Here the undersides have already been painted in RLM 65 which I made from two parts Tamiya XF-23 Light Blue to 1 part XF-2 White

Before I hide it, here's what the cowl area looked like after considerable filing and sanding which resulted in loss of detail. Here I have already rescribed the panels and replaced the circular fasteners using a small sharpened bit of brass tube clamped in a pin vice and pushed into the plastic

Paint started with a coat of XF-61 Dark Green in the areas representing RLM 71. The glazing in the upper fuselage is masked but just pressed, not glued, into place to prevent spraying into the interior.

I then began masking the fuselage splinter scheme after deciding to glue the flaps and ailerons into place on the wings, seen in the background in the below pic. This allows easier line-up of the splinter masks.

The fuselage and tail planes were then sprayed with Tamiya XF-27 Black Green and the masks removed.

I found these two greens, straight out of the bottle, to be excellent matches for the 70/71 colours based on Merrick's paint chips.

I'm taking a break before tackling the wings and will post again when those are done. Thanks for looking.

Thanks Terry. Wings are now done so I'm posting as promised. After masking and painting, I installed the leading edge slats and then gloss coated everything as the Tamiya flat acrylics are prone to scratching. Everything is now set aside as the next step will be to tackle the dreaded Wellenmuster.

This next pic was taken with the wings just press fit into place. The fit is superb and there will barely be need for glue!

Thanks again for looking in.
