As Herbert Thomas was an Unteroffizier when shot down, he would have received the standard one-rank promotion while a PoW, taking him to Feldwebel, but certainly not to Oberleutnant. I think the typed details have been added by the seller...

Thomas was returned in 1943 to Germany. Exchanged due to his burns. He could not fly anymore but didnt leave the Luftwaffe , and continued career. Hence his end rank.

Reade Tilley was a World War II Ace with seven victories, all of which were scored while flying with Eagle Squadrons of the RAF. Following the war, he became deeply involved in the Air Force information field. During the Cold War he helped General Curtis LeMay set up SAC.

He is arguably the one person most responsible for developing the structure and practice of "modern" USAF public affairs. Many innovations he introduced changed military public affairs forever and are still in use today.

Shot down by German nightfighter during a bombing raid on Oberhausen, Germany. The night fighter was flown by Unteroffizier Rudolf Frank of the 2./NJG 3 (detached to 2./NJG 1), flying Bf 110 G-4 D5+CH from Gilze-Rijen airfield, the Netherlands. The entire crew of seven occupants died in the crash.
