Thanks Guys

I have finally managed to complete the splinter pattern with the RLM 71. I'm some what disappointed with the colour I think it's a tad on the olive side but it's some thing I've got to live with. I'm afraid there are no photos to show the stages as I have applied the decals then sealed with a coat of Klear. A flat coat has since been applied, I used Vallejo Polyurethane matt varnish for the first time and I'm pleased with the results. I've also remove the masking from the canopy.

Nice work Vaughan, looks the biz.
That Vallejo varnish - does it come in a bottle/tin, as opposed to aerosol? I'm still trying to find decent clear coats, for airbrush use, after my recent episode with the 'new' Klear/Future going bad on me.

Thanks Terry, the varnish is out of a bottle and a little more expensive than the acrylic version. It still needs to be diluted if your spraying it about 60% varnish to 40% thinners(Vallejo).

Thanks for the info Vaughan, I think I'll give it a try, if I can find any, or if my LHS can get it. Forgot to ask - what's the volume of the bottle, and do they do a gloss also?

Terry It's a 60ml bottle and yes they also do a gloss and satin version although my model shop only does the matt at present. It seems to spray a lot easier that the acrylic version.

Thanks again Vaughan - I'll have a go with it. Being polyurethane, it shouldn't 'yellow' with age like enamel varnishes. I bought some Xtracrylic acrylic matt and gloss, but I've only used the matt so far - which wasn't! It dries semi-matt, and really clogs the airbrush, within seconds. Very disappointed with it.

Thanks Guys.
Well I'm back on the case again with a small update. Under-cart is attached. This was quite fiddly as there were several components that needed to be lined up all at the same time. The main strut that enters the canopy is made of copper wire which gives the under-cart extra strength also the tail wheel is made of white metal so all in all the under-cart is quite solid despite looking very fragile, all the components have been glued using super glue. Next step is to finish off the wings adding the flaps and then attaching them to the fuselage. I've also cut the Mastercaster resin wheels from their stubs at present they are a dry fit and yet to be painted.
