Hey guys, looking for some info on this Typhoon. I have searched and searched and came up empty handed. I figured I would give it a shot here and see what you can come up with. She was part of the No.193 squadron. It also had Betty wrote on the side. Really lookin for pics if anyone can help me. Thanks.

Hi Beau'. I've had a quick look, but haven't found anything yet. That name, 'Betty', rings a bell, so I must have seen a pic somewhere. Leave it with me, and I'll dig through the rest of the stuff I have on the Typhoon and see if I can come up with anything. The serial, SW493 shows that it was from one of the last production batches.
I'll try to let you know within the next couple of days.
Terry.

As memory serves rhe Typhoon was assembled by Gloster factory as Mk. IB according to contract Acft/3864 for Seventh and final batch of 300 aircraft - SW389-428, SW443-478, SW493-537, SW551-596, SW620-668, SW681-716, SW728-772 .
Delivered between January 5th 1945 and November 13th 1945. It was a machine fitted with the 4 blade prop, and Tempest tailplanes.Using by 193 RAF Sqn she was marked as DP_ S.

Fantastic info Wojtek!

Are you doing a model of her Beau? Found on the net that Academy's 1/72 kit has markings for SW493:
aRcHeRwIn'S MoDeLs - 1/72 HAWKER TYPHOON

Also Eagle Strike do markings for her (in 1/72):
Eagle Strike 72009 : Typhoon Mk Ib late SW417/MR-X 245 Sqn, SW470/JB 4 Sqn, MN819/MR-? 245 Sqn, SW493/DP-S 192 Sqn 'Betty', RB222/ TP-F 198 Sqn, RB248/ZH-B 266 Sqn

Found this too which may be of interest:

If you can find the Revell 1/32nd scale kit, overall, it's not bad. It's got the 'car door' canopy, but this is easily replaced by a moulded one, which I did myself, or I think there's still one avavilable through Squadron or similar outlets. The kit only needs minor work in a few small areas to get it up to scratch. Biggest problem for the particular machine you want to model, is the kit provides the 3 bladed prop, and the original tailplanes. I don't think these are available as aftermarket items. Both of the Tamiya 1/48th kits are very good though, if you fancy this scale.

Ooops! Correction to my earlier post - the 1/48th scale kits are Hasegawa, NOT Tamiya as originally posted!
Also, King Kit, a UK company who supply out of production and rare kits, have the Monogram 1/48th scale Typhoon, which is still a good kit, with the 4 blade prop. They are listing this at £7.99, approx $13.25 US, plus shipping.
Hope this helps.
